THE BOTH

WEDNESDAY AUG. 27

FINAL WEEKLY RECURRING HUMOR NIGHT
[COMEDY] After 3
½
years, one of the sturdiest fixtures of the local standup scene comes to an end tonight. The giant slate of comedians includes Nathan Brannon, Kristine Levine, Bri Pruett and Sean Jordan, and don’t forget to buy Whitney Streed a drink—the longtime host deserves it. Tonic Lounge, 3100 NE Sandy Blvd., 238-0543. 9 pm. “Pay what you want,” $3-$5 suggested. 21+.
AVEY TARE’S SLASHER FLICKS
[MUSIC] Of Animal Collective’s many talented and strange parts, Avey Tare might be the most talented…and the strangest. His new outfit, Slasher Flicks, mixes acid jazz and spooky freak-rock into a mysterious, animated sound—like a graphic novel come to life. Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi Ave., 288-3895. 9 pm. $15. 21+.

THURSDAY AUG. 28

BATH NIGHT
[SKETCH] In the world of this sketch comedy show, you’ll find a Miss America stage mom, a ’90s pop Pandora station that keeps interrupting a torture session, and a poker-illiterate James Bond. It’s a side-splitting, jaunty ride, with a superb cast of performers. Shaking the Tree Studio, 1407 SE Stark St., 235-0635. 8 pm (continues through Aug. 30). $17-$20.
SLINT
[MUSIC] In 1990, four kids from Kentucky recorded a weird, wondrous album called Spiderland, enrapturing an entire generation of musicians. Problem was, by the time it came out, the band had already broken up. Fans have been trying to solve the mystery of Slint ever since. Luckily, the group has made things easier in recent years, reuniting for sporadic touring, but its knotty songs remain as enigmatic as ever. Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside St., 225-0047. 9 pm. $29 advance, $35 day of show. All ages.

FRIDAY AUG. 29

THE BOTH
[MUSIC] Ted Leo’s jumpy punk rock meets Aimee Mann’s signature melancholy in this all-star indie-rock duo, producing surprisingly dynamic duets, in which Leo’s foot-tapping riffs are given a soothing counterpunch only Mann could provide. Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie Ave., 234-9694. 8 pm. $25. Under 21 permitted with legal guardian.

SATURDAY AUG. 30

UNCOMMON WINE FESTIVAL
[WINE] Vista Hills Vineyard in Dayton will host seven wine producers who make less than 200 bottles of wine a year, with tasting and purchasing opportunities that usually don’t make it anywhere near a market. Vista Hills Vineyard, 6475 NE Hilltop Lane, Dayton, 864-3200. Noon-5 pm. $30.
