Buzz List 8/27/14

1. Rum Club

720 SE Sandy Blvd., 265-8807, rumclubpdx.com.

Born as the bar and waiting room for Beaker & Flask, this snug cocktail bar has outlived its sister restaurant, coming into its own as a remarkably hospitable space for disparate groups: first-daters, out-of-towners, patio smokers and especially cocktail aficionados who prefer to avoid the inflated prices and vest-and-bow-tie fussiness of westside mixology shrines.

2. Scout Beer Garden

Good Food Here pod, Southeast Belmont Street and 43rd Avenue; Tidbit Food Farm and Garden pod, SE 28th Avenue and Division Street, scoutpdx.com.

Scout is multiplying, with a second location pouring at the recently opened Tidbit Food Farm and Garden on Southeast 28th and Division, next to Love Belizean, Pyro Pizza and Hapa Ramen.

3. Paymaster Lounge

1020 NW 17th Ave., 943-2780.

Get the frozen piña colada inside this Slabtown art-dive, then make your way through the labyrinth to the best eastside-style patio in westside Portland. Outdoor pool table!

4. Paddy's Bar & Grill

65 SW Yamhill St., 224-5626, paddys.com.

During MusicfestNW, Paddy's became a very queasy jungle of cutoff jeans and boating shorts. Air conditioning makes for strange barfellows.

5. Growler Guys

816 SE 8th Ave., Suite 109, 971-255-0715, thegrowlerguys.com.

This newish growler fill station and pub has 48 taps in a bare-walled, shiny-floored space next to Grand Central Bowling, including lesser-seen handles like Boneyard's Bone-A-Fide Pale and Reverend Nat's D'anjou Mosaic perry. Most important, they top off your glass with CO², keeping your brew fresh for several weeks.
