For the past 15 years, Oregonians have stood idly by as the state's awful tourism motto--"Things look different here"--oozed over the airwaves. But with the state's national profile now resting comfortably in the crapper, Gov. Ted Kulongoski enlisted high-profile ad agent Dan Wieden to give Oregon a boost. A couple of weeks ago, the city's daily paper asked some "experts" to offer some suggestions, and, frankly, we were underwhelmed. (We were pretty excited about state Sen. Avel Gordly's nominee--"The grass is greener here...and some of it is for sale"--until we realized she was touting our lawn-seed industry.)
Before Wieden & Kennedy unveils its campaign Dec. 1, WW wanted to offer a few ideas about how best to capture the nation's attention. If you think you can do better, email newsdesk@wweek.com and we'll print the slogans we deem worthy.
