At the Epee Center

Last week, WW chronicled epee fencer Cody Mattern's experiences at the Olympics, going to press time just before his competition started. Mattern ended up placing 22nd in the individual competition after losing to Hungarian Ivan Kovacs in the first qualification round. Marcel Fischer, a Swiss fencer Mattern beat at the World Cup earlier this year, took the gold medal. On Sunday, Mattern competed in the team epee event, in which the United States placed sixth.
