PDX Pop NOW!

Aug. 5-7

Last year, the folks down at PDX Pop NOW! festival headquarters-which is actually someone's living room-put together a smashingly successful free festival that brought together 43 Portland bands that each gave their own interpretation of "pop" (see feature, page 25). This year, with the help of more than 6,490 ballots cast by Portland music fans at pdxpopnow.com, organizers have rendered the word "pop" meaningless and put together a show that is more asymmetrical, weird and unpredictable-in other words, even more like Portland-than the first fest. With these lineups, expect the unexpected, but expect it to be great. And if it isn't, just take a walk and come back for the next band. MARK BAUMGARTEN.

The Second Annual PDX Pop Now Festival takes place at Loveland, 320 SE 2nd Ave., 234-5683. Free. All ages.
