Local animal rights activists plan to tap the energy from hundreds of visitors expected in town this weekend for the Let Live Animal Rights Conference.

They're planning four days of rallies and demonstrations against the killing of nature's furry friends for food and other products. The protest schedule, organized by the Portland Animal Defense League, includes a rally Friday, June 25 at the Weisdorfer Fur Farm in Boring. Also planned are foie gras protests Saturday, June 26 outside Ten 01 on Northwest Couch Street and Beast on Northeast 30th Avenue.

“Since there are hundreds of people every year, it's a good opportunity to use those masses for targets in the Portland area,” said Justin Kay, media liaison for the defense league.

Let Live Foundation, a seemingly free-loving animal rights non-profit that lists the same operating address as the not-so-subtle vegan activist grocery store Food Fight!, hosts its third annual conference this weekend. Subsequently, it is the league's third year of planned action. Kay said demonstrations in the past have typically drawn more than 50 people. And he expects even more this year for actions that include unspecified actions June 27 and June 28.
