Goodbye Valentine's Sandwiches; Hello Valentine's Lounge!

valentines 002On a cuteness scale, Ankeny Alley (the tiny street between Berbati's Pan and Dan & Louis Oyster Bar) is somewhere between Luxembourg and the Cosby Kids—it's that friggin' cute, and with booze, it just gets cuter.

Tonight, Valentine's, the sandwich shop that has occupied hearts, minds and an iconic Ankeny alley storefront since 2005, reinvents itself as Valentine's Lounge (232 SW Ankeny St., 248-1600), a full-on bar with small plates, mixed drinks, and the occasional deejay.

The bad news is that Valentine's has stopped serving lunch forever, but the new bar menu will feature the stellar bacon-laced egg salad and the iconic Reuben. Check out the grand opening tonight as the friendly staff will be handing out samples of what's to come. Valentine's new boozy self will be open seven days a week from 5 pm to 2:30 am. Hell yeah!
