Mitt Romney comes to the metro area (loosely defined) this weekend for a
fundraiser (PDF) hosted by money manager David Nierenberg and sponsored by a bunch of familiar Oregon names.
The former Massachusetts governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate (and likely 2012 contender) will come
not to Portland, however. Instead, Romney will venture to the leafy tax haven of Camas, Wash. where Oregonians go to shelter their income from our lofty income taxes (tied with Hawaii for the nation's highest top rate).
Among those joining Romney across the Columbia on June 12 will be familiar Oregonians such as former
U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.); 2006 GOP gubernatorial nominee
Ron Saxton; timber and property magnate Peter Stott; beer distributor
Ed Maletis; Portland money managers
Stephen Babson and
John von Schlegell of Endeavour Capital and former ambassador to Malta
Molly Bordonaro.
The crew will raise money ($5,000 per couple for a photo op at 4 p.m. or $1,000 per person at 5 pm, not photo) for Romney's Free and Strong America political action
committee.
