This Sunday, June 17, marks the Portland Art Institute's ninth annual fashion show, "The Fine Art of Fashion". The Portland Art Museum's Kridel Grand Ballroom (1219 SW Park Ave.) will set the stage for 66 designers showcasing 170 of their looks. The show itself is being produced by a collaborative group of some 40 students from various disciplines at The Art Institute. The Apparel Design Department Director, Sue Bonde and Apparel Design instructor, Melanie Andrews, have been at the helm of the elaborate production and all of the proceeds from the event will go toward scholarships for students studying Apparel Design at The Art Institute through the Creative Arts Scholarship Fund.
Of the 66 student designers, 25 of them are graduating seniors featuring their final collections. Looks range from evening wear to avant-garde, ready-to-wear to outdoor clothing and children's wear to bridal. Take special note of Jessica Bobillot's fashion forward designs featuring unconventionally belted separates. Andrew Vanzaten also creates some stand-outs and is well on his way, considering he already has a job lined up with local men's and women's urban apparel line, Sameunderneath. Keep an eye out for Kelcey Stockey's contemporary bridal wear (below).

Doors open 6:30 pm. Show begins 7:30 pm. General admission is $25 and up (according to VIP status)
Get your tix at the Art Museum's box office (226-2811) or online at portlandartmuseum.org. And get 'em while they're hot, 'cause last year's show sold out. (over 700 tickets)
