Dead K-9 Officer Honored

Tonight Deny, a Portland Police K-9 officer, will be posthumously honored with the 2006 K-9 of the Year award along with his handler, Officer Shawn Gore. Deny developed an inoperable brain tumor in September and was put to sleep in October.

Accord to a police statement: Deny's nine-year service included the capture of 415 suspects, 1,878 searches and recovery of $15,000 worth of property.

The ceremony will be at 7 p.m in the Southeast Precinct Community Room, 4735 East Burnside.
