Multnomah Sheriff's Corrections Deputy Resigns Over Alleged Feelings For Inmate

A Multnomah County Sheriff's corrections deputy working at the Inverness jail resigned late last month, telling a supervisor he had developed feelings for an inmate, Sheriff's officials confirmed Thursday.

The resignation of the deputy, whose name was not released because of an ongoing investigation, comes on the heels of two sex-related departures at the sheriff's office.

Last month, Deputy Christopher Green pleaded guilty to official misconduct after being accused of making women lift their shirts and pull down their pants as he searched for a non-existent suspect with a flower tattoo. And in October, the department fired Deputy Scott Aardappel after he was arrested on suspicion of failure to report child sex abuse.

A WW analysis of state records published Wednesday found one in three law enforcement officials who lose their licenses in Oregon do so as the result of sexual misconduct.

It is unclear, says Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jason Gates, whether the short-time employee's feelings had ever translated into actions.
