Will the Rose City be the straw to break the back of the U.S.-led invasion and occupation of Iraq?
Today, Portland City Commissioner Randy Leonard announced his intention to file a council resolution this afternoon calling for the US to "immediately commence an orderly and rapid withdrawl of United States military personnel from Iraq."
"It is clear now that we were grossly misled, and our service men and women are standing in harm's way as a result," he said in a press statement.
If adopted, Portland would join more than 270 municipalities that have called for swift end to the war.
Leonard's office cited statistics showing Portlanders have put $419 million toward the war effort, which he feels could have gone to other serivices at home, such as education and health care.
