Update on Clackamas County Elections Dispute

Oregon ballot

Clackamas County Clerk Sherry Hall's decision to reprint ballots to fix an error in earlier versions has set off quite the battle between the county board of commissioners and Hall, who oversees the county's elections office.

County chairwoman Lynn Peterson tells WW that she finds the original error "unacceptable" and has asked the Secretary of State's office to investigate and do a performance audit of the county elections office.

"Hall is the only county clerk in Oregon who disregarded state elections office direction on these very issues," Peterson says. "The citizens of Clackamas County have the right to expect more than vague excuses from Ms. Hall – especially when additional tax dollars have been in the past and will now be spent to fix her wholly avoidable mistake."

Don Hamilton, spokeswoman for Secretary of State Kate Brown, says the resolution of the legal dispute and the decision to print the ballots means that "From our perspective it's all over now."
