The campaign to
recall Mayor Sam Adams got a boost this week with news that real-estate bigwig
Joe Weston would lease the mostly volunteer effort new, discounted office space across from the Rose Quarter.
The new office at 407 N. Broadway won't open until next week. But volunteers should be familiar with the space already; it's next door to the
old office Weston donated during the last recall effort.
The new space isn't entirely free. The campaign will pay for utilities and other incidental costs. Earlier this month, the City of Portland
ejected the recall campaign from Portland-owned office space, even though the city had no new tenant lined up for the downtown property.
Last week, the campaign started using paid signature gatherers in its effort to collect more than 32,000 valid signatures by the April 20 deadline. And yesterday, financial disclosure reports showed
$19,500 in new donations.
