Ah, the Old Town: Portland's melting-pot of vagrants, geeks, frat boys, strippers and rockers. Join them all this Saturday for the second annual Old Town Block Party
, in that parking lot over the road from Backspace and Davis Street Tavern, for a day of eating, drinking and dancing for a good cause.
Last year, over 3,000 people showed up to help re-erect the (heh) "Hung Far Low" sign. This year, the Block Party is raising money for local charities Transition Projects
, Rose Haven
, Sisters of the Road
There are selfish reasons to go, too. On the bill is dance-video duo Deelay Ceelay, indie rockers the Joggers, party-punks Mean Jeans and electro-poppers Lovers
, plus DJs all day.
Not convinced? Here's an epic, brand new song from Lovers, "Don't You Want It," for your listening enjoyment. (Lovers' next album, Dark Light
, is out October 12 on Badman Recordings.)
The whole shebang is free!
Free as in beer! (Except the beer, which will not be free.)
The good times kick off at noon and run until 10 pm. We are currently flogging ourselves for not mentioning this thing in the paper (well, aside from some pretty ads).
