The political dominoes are falling fast this morning.
Karol Collymore, an aide to Multnomah County Commissioner
Jeff Cogen, this morning
filed (PDF) to run for her boss's seat. Cogen will switch his filing to run for County Chair Ted Wheeler's spot.
"I just think it's the natural next step for me in my political career," Collymore says. "I've worked at the county for three years with Jeff Cogen, and I can't think of a better next step than to follow in his footsteps."
Collymore also had
vied for a state legislative seat last year after state Sen. Margaret Carter (D-Portland) left her legislative seat for a state job.
This morning, Gov. Ted Kulongoski named Wheeler state treasurer, following the death of Treasurer Ben Westlund from cancer over the weekend.
We've got a call in to Cogen for comment and will update this when we hear from him.
Meantime, today at 5 pm is the filing deadline for the May primary.
