The numbers are in from the straw poll taken today at the Republican party's annual Dorchester convention in Seaside. Despite trailing behind former Portland Trailblazer Chris Dudley in fundraising this year by about a seven-to-one margin , former Pixelworks CEO Allen Alley (pictured above) impressed the GOP activists who gathered to hear the first debate between their party's candidates. Dudley, Lim and former State Sen. John Lim (R-Gresham took the stage in an event moderated by Congressman Greg Walden (R-Hood River). Dorchester organizers excluded initiative activist Bill Sizemore, who is also a candidate for governor, from the debate.
Here are the results:
Allen Alley 225
Chris Dudley 165
John Lim 47
Bill Sizemore – 1
[Former Gov.] Vic Atiyeh - 1
Oregon GOP spokesman Greg Leo said the results mirrored the reaction he heard after the event.
"This result is consistent with the reaction by Delegates to Friday's debate," Leo says. "Alley ‘won' the debate by being polished, informed, persuasive and likeable. Dudley will need more confidence and polish to ‘step up his game' to compete, despite his ‘head and shoulders above the crowd' charisma."
