On Sunday night, French pop band Phoenix played to the most excited crowd I've ever seen at the Crystal Ballroom. I was smart enough to throw myself into the middle of it, eschewing the safety of the 21+ side to jump around in the middle of a pack of friends and 16-year-olds who were clearly losing their minds watching their favorite band play a note-perfect set onstage. When singer Thomas Mars ventured into the crowd during the band's encore to sing hit "1901," the screaming almost outweighed the songs' mammoth synth line. It's clear that a lot of people—myself included—truly love this band. Photographer Ben Johnson also falls into this category, and, despite mentioning that it's hard to snap pics when you just want to dance, came away with some pretty awesome photos from the night. -Ed.
