Playing under the assumed name Pie Ghosts, Gossip's set at Mississippi Studios last night wasn't quite so secret, as evidenced by the legions of people who turned out for the sold-out show. The quartet—including Hornet Leg's Chris Sutton on bass—turned out a super intimate performance, and not just because of frontwoman Beth Ditto's endearing penchant for over-sharing intimate details of her life. There were confessions of peeing her pants, lots of cover songs (including "What's Love Got to Do With It") and shouts from friends that turned it into a birthday party of sorts, given that the band will be on tour when her February birthday rolls around. Next up were Glasgow's legendary Yummy Fur, playing its last show ever. Beth was as much a presence during Yummy Fur's set as her own band's, chiming in with adulation and stories of the bands' intertwined paths. Giddy and grinning singer-guitarist John McKeown led the quartet through a 16 song set and encore that marked a triumphant close to the group's last chapter.
