Photo Review: George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Monday, Jan. 18 @ Crystal Ballroom
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic set down the mothership and took it to the stage at the Crystal Ballroom on Monday. One of the most influential bands of the funk universe, it played for fans both young and old, some of which have followed the group since its inception in the late '60s. A few of the heavyweights in the band's deep roster include lead vocalist/guitarist Gary “Diaperman” Shider (dressed in full regalia), vocalist Robert “P-Nut” Johnson, bassist Cordell “Boogie” Mosson and guitarist Michael Hampton. The band delivered the hits with a solid show and capped it off with the electric and soulful “Maggot Brain” by Hampton followed by a respectful and funky tribute to the Godfather, James Brown. Although the roof remained intact at the end of the show, Clinton and the band let everyone know they can still bring it.
