New Hush Goodies From Shelley Short, Peter Broderick
There are few things musically I enjoy more than a good stomp-and-clap beat. On "Time Machine Submarine," Shelley Short's new single from her upcoming album A Cave, A Canoo, it's the basis for a sweet and layered song featuring Short's breathy vocals and plucking alongside Alexis Gideon's swirls of guitar noise. I missed Short's June show at Mississippi Studios, but luckily someone from Hush Records was there with a video camera, capturing "Time Machine" and four other cuts from the new record in high-quality HD. Here's "Time Machine" and another unreleased track, "Canoo."
You can view the entire video set on the Hush YouTube page, and it's worth a quick click if you get the chance. Really beautiful stuff, and I can't wait for the whole full-length. Hush also has a two track introduction to Peter Broderick up on its blog along with a free download. Broderick has been busy touring the country for most of 2009, but if you caught his family-friendly set at PDX Pop Now!, you know that the kid is not just an amazing talent but a wonderful songwriter.
