City Commissioner Dan Saltzman elaborated at a news conference this morning about his request to the federal Justice Department and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for a full civil rights investigation into last month's fatal Portland police
shooting of Aaron Campbell.
"It's going to the top -- the top of the top -- of the U.S. Department of Justice," said Saltzman, who's in charge of the Portland Police Bureau.
Saltzman also said he wants a "top to bottom" internal review of how the Police Bureau handled the incident. He said the review would be "unsparing."
One other thing that has been unsparing this week has been the public pressure on Saltzman and Mayor Sam Adams. The most recent example of that will come in a few more hours when a rally and march is scheduled to begin at 3 pm at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Meantime, I'll update this morning's news conference with more in a bit.
