Portland Lounge Series XX: Carcrashlander, Shelley Short & Adam Shearer (of Weinland), Tonight!

lc buttonYou read correctly. It is indeed time, once again, for our (free!) live interview-and-intimate set event, the Portland Lounge Series. This Sunday, June 29, at the Towne Lounge (714 SW 20th Place), yours truly will be chatting with Adam Shearer, the ever-charismatic frontman of dark Americana outfit Weinland, charming/cute country crooner Shelley Short and ubiquitous trumpeter-about-town Cory Gray, whose band Carcrashlander will rock your socks off to finish out the night. You'll get to know each of these talented Portlanders a bit better on Sunday night, but let's meet 'em in brief right now:

Headlining the night is Carcrashlander, a band that recently abandoned its folkier ways to embrace a more experimental, rockin' sound. I'll be talking with frontman Cory Gray (picture above with his cat, Dolphy) about the transition, focusing on his own music for a change, and really good breakfast scrambles.

"Gold Sunset," from Carcrashlander's self-titled debut full-length:

Smack in the middle I'll chat with Ms. Shelley Short, a folky country-crooner who does the genre right. I'll ask her about recording for rad record label/non-profit Hinah in Paris, how it's possible to sounds so smart and so cute at the same time, and, yes, about the recalling-a-certain-celebrity longitudinal quality of her name: coincidence or no?

"How Grand," from Water for the Day:

And opening up this fine evening of local music is Adam Shearer, who's fresh off a national tour with band Weinland (not to mention a show the night before with A Weather and Norfolk & Western at the Aladdin). I'll ask him why he wanted to go first tonight (ahem, as to not be too drunk by interview time), what the rest of the country thought if his beautiful-but-sad folk-rock tunes, and for a li'l recap on an old story regarding one very (potentially) rockin' feline.

"Sick as a Gun," from La Lamentor:

Um, and did we mention this whole enticing package is yours FREE!? It is!
