
Perhapst, John Moen's newly-released solo debut, reflects the current Decemberist and former Elliot Smith/Stephen Malkmus drummer's changing influences from British folk to New Wave, but back in 2002, the Moen-fronted Maroons immersed themselves in pop. Second Maroons' album
You're Gonna Ruin Everything indulges a string of shimmering, melodic confection with "Lonely Summer" (a slowly-strummed bauble swooning below Moen's breathy falsetto) being especially affecting.
