The title track of her new album (and, any sane world, the summer's single of choice for self-medicating romantics), "Valentine" very much reflects the new Morgan Grace—solo; self-produced; bereft of rawk stagings—but there's no preciousness or experimentation. It's just a perfect bit of jaded pop fantasia. Guitar strum and hand-claps burst through the haze before typically gorgeous vocals spin a sparkling, sing-a-long ode to wry heartache that's testament both to the powers of DIY and the eternal drama of unwanted dependence.
