Banner night for the East End this Sunday. Birthday for Patrick of Pure Country Gold, belated bachelor party for Fireballs Of Freedom's Kelly "Gator" Gately and a welcome home benefit for David "Roach" Simmons of Fireballs, Starantula, Divining Rods, Thee Headliners, the Weaklings, Add-X and...pretty much every band 'round town deserving keyboard wizardry and inimitable presence.
Simmons decamped to Raleigh last winter for solo work and a yet-untitled project with D-Generation's Richard Bacchus, so this'll likely be the last chance for a while to catch funk garage all-stars Pure Decadence. Along with Poison Idea guitarist Jim Taylor and drummer-about-town Paul Vega, Simmons pounded his organ towards that sweet strut 'tween rawk and r&b. Pure Decadence never quite released an album, but here's a track from years past—raucous, elemental, and all too sweet.
