An Olympics Opening Ceremonies Option If Watching At Home Doesn't Cut It

Bobsledding

If you're closer to this Vancouver tonight instead of THE Vancouver, as in the Olympics Vancouver — and for some reason need the communal Olympics spirit you can't get watching at home — head over to Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square. There, the Oregon Sports Authority is putting on a free viewing event with two giant LCD screens to project the opening ceremonies that begin at 7:30 pm, plus all kinds of giveaways.

(It will be interesting to see how celebratory folks are feeling here, or at the ceremonies themselves, given today's death of a luger during a training run.)

In 2006, the Oregon Sports Authority drew nearly 10,000 people to the square to watch the World Cup Soccer tournament.

Wonder how tonight's production in the square will compare to that one, or this more spontaneous one from last summer?
