I was out of town yesterday reporting on another story. So I just got around to reading the flap about the item in this week's
Murmurs about City Commissioner
Dan Saltzman and Police Chief
Rosie Sizer.
I reported that Saltzman, who oversees the police bureau, said in an interview that Sizer has said she plans to retire when she's eligible for full benefits in July. Now I read on
Jack Bogdanski's blog that Saltzman is
saying his remarks were taken out of context.
The context seemed clear to me in the interview. I asked an open-ended question about Saltzman's plans as police commissioner this year. And he offered that he would be hiring a new police chief.
I asked him if that means Sizer is retiring in July. Twice. Saltzman says that's what Sizer has told him, and that's what he understands will happen. Hence, he plans to hire a new police chief.
Here's the
audio clip, true believers.
