This, the eighth episode of These are the Days, previews this year's MusicfestNW, a four-day music festival taking place in Portland the weekend of September 6-9. Co-sponsored by Willamette Week and benefiting the Oregon Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame and the Rock N' Roll Camp for Girls, this year's festival features more than 150 bands on more than a dozen stages. While the festival features some of the hottest current names in music--Dan Deacon, Girl Talk, Grizzly Bear and Deerhunter--it also features historically important groups like Roky Erickson and the Explosives and Lifetime. Then there are the bands representing Portland, who, no question, are some of our best.
In addition to tracks from Lifetime, Spoon and Spoon's part-time Portlander frontman Britt Daniel, the podcast features the usual assortment of Portland's finest--from exclusive KPSU studio recordings of the Thermals and Horse Feathers to the legit-as-fuck stylings of Black Elk, LKN, and Swan Island. The array of Portland talent on display at this year's festival just isn't fair. It's not fair to other towns, and it's not fair to festivalgoers in danger of spraining their ankles at the risk of trying to race between venues to catch all that talent. It's difficult to predict or plan exactly how you will spend the next four days, but by the end of them, my guess is you'll either be deaf, sleep deprived or both. Have fun, but don't get hurt. Peace, beasts.
