Episode 5 of These Are The Days features artists performing at this year's PDX Pop Now! festival which takes places August third through fifth at Audiocinema in SE Portland. From its humble origins on an e-mail listserv, PDX Pop Now! has become one of the most beloved music events in town. This episode also features interviews with Ebeth Dannen and Ezra Sandberg-Lewis. Dannen was the head of this year's Pop fest booking committee, a committee of which I was also a member. Dannen talks a little about the history of the fest and its booking process. Sandberg-Lewis's band, Hurah Hurah, came together shortly after last year's PDX Pop Now, exemplifying the inspirational nature of the festival.
Working with Hurah Hurah over the last year has been a learning experience for everybody involved, including yours truly, who worked closely with the band as an advocate and adviser. Unfortunately, Hurah Hurah will be disbanding shortly after this year's PDX Pop Now!, performing for the final time Saturday August 18 at the Silo, as part of the CD release party for The Newspapers. Also in this podcast, music by Dragging An Ox Through Water, the Maybe Happening, Point Juncture WA and The Blow.
