The Hospitals, "Don't Panic" from S/T (In The Red)

hospitalYes, the Hospitals are now a Portland band. Or, rather, the Rob n' Rod half of the band is here. Frankly, I don't know if the punk-garage-shreik band is even a band anymore. Rob n' Rod are in a new band called Eat Skull, which I hear is pretty rad, maybe more garage-y than noisy. In any case, that's hearsay: I missed their first show a couple nights ago at the Artistery. Word is that it was drunk and fabulous and loud. Next time.

This cut's relatively old Hospitals. I'd give you something off their newer, considerably more insane I've Visited the Island of Jocks and Jazz, but I've got nothing digital. This song is great because I hate surf guitar. (What are your feelings on surf guitar? Email me. I'm lonely.) They're all over the place here, and they sound nicely out of tune, or maybe like the heavy kick-drum's heavy gravity is fucking with the notes. The band makes a good show of totally wrecking that surf guitar line frequently with massive, manic, horrible, perfect cymbal assault and battery. Take that surf guitar scum. That's about it.
