Rob Walmart, "Waterskiing in Canada" from Contains the Hit Waterskiing in Canada

robwalmartI reviewed this album last fall, something of a retrospective of the shadowy band/collective, thinking that Rob Walmart wasn't likely to be heard from again. Something to do with their name involving a certain corporation...and them really liking the name. Anyhow, they've resurfaced in relatively legit form, giving billed live shows (as opposed to cruising parking lots in the "jam van" delivering improptu shows). Yet, the shadow remains: "live" only means pumping remote "jam van" transmissions into the venue, as went down at Holocene a couple of weeks ago. Which is still rad, by the way.

"Waterskiing In Canada" is a catchy little bit of absurdism: cave echo drum machine, simmering and pulsing psych guitar, and a spoken word play-by-play of "visiting" an unnamed supercenter. On waterskis.
