MusicfestNW Lineup Solidified and Solid

MusicfestNW Guide 2006Regular Local Cut readers (Mom, Mikey) might have noticed a bit of a slowdown in this journal's usually endless stream of fascinating music news and opinions. But worry not, faithful Portland music fan. We have not given up the ship to Mr. Byron Beck, who, if you hadn't noticed, is currently guesting on Local Cut as our Rock Star: Supernova reporter. (And he's doing a fine job of it, I might ad, considering that the job requires him to watch Tommy Lee wave his arms around like he's a monkey and say things like "I know you've got it inside you and you've got to get it out. Super sweet performance. You rocked so hard I could feel it in my eyes.")

The reason why we've been away is that the Local Cutters have been busy constructing the guide for this year's MusicfestNW, which will take place in 17 clubs across the city, Sept. 7-9. The festival, which is sponsored by our parent paper Willamette Week, is big and the coinciding guide, which will come out Aug. 16, requires massive amounts of brain energy to write, edit, design and (by the final 10 hours of production) try not to destroy. The hatred has subsided--although any who says the word "riff," "singer-songwriter" or "indie" in my presence in the next couple days gets a shiv in the gills.

The great thing about being done with the guide is that we can actually tell you exactly what the lineup for the festival is. And so, here it is. I would try to organize it using a clever editorial conceit, but my brain might bolt, land on my keyboard and get the thing all bloody.
