Stars of Track & Field Labelmates with Scott Stapp

Stars of Track & FieldAccording to the oxymoronic PR Newswire, Portland's own melodramatic digi-pop group Stars of Track and Field have been signed to Wind-Up Records (cue confetti). For anyone who hasn't run across the label's website while looking for shirtless photos of Scott Stapp, Wind-Up Records is the largest independently owned label in the United States, distributed worldwide by Sony/BMG Entertainment (except in Canada!) and responsible for some of the greatest intellectual failures of Western society, including Mr. Stapp and Evanescence (cue confetti).

Okay. I'm being mean, but seriously, the Stars of Track and Field guys are not idiots. Getting on a label this huge is a great accomplishment for a local band, even if that label is responsible for releasing the soundtrack to the (and I'm just guessing here) vacuous teen romp John Tucker Must Die. That's why it is our responsibility to razz them endlessly about it. Because soon they will be driving Jaguars while smoking FDA-approved crack, and I will still be stuck having conversations with that guy on the 15 busline who told me about the FDA's crack program.

As if to thwart our ideas about them, the band will be touring with Jeremy Enigk (of Sunny Day Real Estate fame), starting tonight in Denver. Then the band will come home to prepare for the release of its Wind-Up debut, Centuries Before Love, set for an early-2007 release.

The dates are as follow:
07.31 - Denver, CO Bluebird Theatre
08.02 - Lawrence, KS The Bottleneck
