You might want to sit down for this. M. Ward will soon be leaving Portland. According to a source close to the singer-songwriter, Ward will be moving to New Hampshire where his lady has been accepted into a graduate program at a university. Damned anonymous sources and their non-specific information.
Whatever the reason, the result is that the amazing baseball-hatted troubadour will no longer be making many surprise guest appearances as he did last night, joining Norfolk & Western on stage at Mississippi Studios. Although his tour schedule will surely bring him back often for, what should be, some damn fine shows. The first of those will be on Sept. 30 at the Aladdin Theater. Get your tickets now, people.
Ward, who will be releasing his fifth album Post-War
(Merge) on Aug. 22, is not an Oregon native, but he has worked his way into the state's annals by penning one of the greatest songs about Portland ever, "Paul's Son."
Our loss is New Hampshire's gain.
