Although they've long been though of as more punk than princess, designers are giving safety pins a serious attitude adjustment. Safety pin accessories are popping up all over, this time with a sophisticated, ladylike bent. Wearing these are a great way to give your outfit some downtown edge without looking like a depressed 15-year old.

The oversize Mulberry brooch (above) would up the cool factor of a simple sweater and the 18K gold safety pin earrings are equal parts masochist and 5th Avenue ladies-who-lunch. An unusual but sexy combo.
