A Lebanese-American woman from Northwest Portland is suing a man accused of firing a gun at her house in an alleged hate crime.
Suzanne Hachem suffered "severe emotional distress" as a result of the alleged attack by Vadim Ignatov (pictured above), according to the suit filed Jan. 12 in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
Last September, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired into Suzanne and Fadi Hachem's home on Northwest 81st Place. Deputies arrested Ignatov, the family's 43-year-old neighbor.
According to the lawsuit, Ignatov fired a gun at the Hachems' home in spring 2009 and on at least three occasions afterward, occasioinally yelling "fucking Arabs" and "fucking Muslims."
In an incident widely reported
last fall, the family told authorities Vadim fired at their house Aug. 29 when there were five adults and six children inside.
A grand jury indicted Ignatov Sept. 9 on 21 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangerment, intimidation and criminal mischief. Ignatov has pleaded not guilty on all counts.
The lawsuit, filed by Portland lawyer Hala Gores, seeks $400,000 for Suzanne Hachem's pain and suffering as a result of the shootings. When deputies arrested Ignatov Sept. 2, they found $200,000 in a pickle jar in his car as well as $10,000 in gold and platinum.
