Oregon Capitol News today added new information to its database of
public employees' salaries, listing for the first time the wages at
Portland Public Schools, the state's largest school district.
The
database, based on information given to the Oregon Capitol News by the school district, appears to have a few glitches. For example, it lists a
physical education social studies teacher at Lincoln as the district's third highest paid employee and an elementary school teacher at Buckman as another top-paid employee. However, there's no such thing as overtime in teaching, and the salary for teachers tops out at $73,168 for an educator with a PhD and 12 years of experience, according to the
teachers' contract.
In other respects the database tells you what you might expect. Central office administrators commonly earn six-figure salaries while library aides, paraeducators and educational assistants take home wages below $30,000.
