Reduce, Reuse and Repair: Darning Class for Beginners

darning class at Mag-Big

Darning. It's a strange word. Maybe because it's been awhile since we've used it. Maybe since the last depression. But with record unemployment rates shrinking our sock budget it might be time to do the darn thing. At least that's what the ladies at Skye Blue Can Sew think.

For the month of January, Skye Blue collaborates with new arty/crafy hub Mag-Big to host classes on basic clothing repair and maintenance. The first class focuses on holes in socks and other wooly items. Students are asked to bring a couple knit items with holes less than the size of a 25 cent piece. They're also asked to bring their own wool or thread.Mag-Big

If you've got some time, some ragged undergarments and a green Andrew Jackson, check out this event. Or buy a few new pairs of socks.

GO: Skye Blue Darning Class at Mag-Big, 3279 SE Hawthorne, 236-6120. 6-7 pm Wednesday, Jan. 19. $20.
