For several weeks now,
Storm Large has been appearing on stage in L.A. at the Mark Taper forum, in a revue called
"Harps and Angels" of songs by
Randy Newman, the pop singer/composer/pianist. Large performs along with Michael McKean and Katey Sagal (best known as the mom on
Married . . . with Children). The reviews? The
Los Angeles Times did a strange thing and
reviewed the show by asking Newman what he thought. Newman, not surprisingly, was positive, saying "I don't have a face that's got a smile painted on it in any sense," he said. "It's a difficult effort for me, these [facial] muscles. But I was happy on the inside. Some things I loved, and I think it'll be an entertaining evening."
The
L.A. Weekly sent a real reviewer, who was quite taken with the show,
calling it "smart and absorbing," though it didn't mention anything specifically about Storm.
Unsatisfied, we asked
Tres Shannon, the co-founder of
