Turn in a Gun This Saturday, At Least Get a Burger

Got unwanted firearms laying around? You can turn them in this Saturday, Dec. 18 at the annual Gun Turn-In event sponsored by Ceasefire Oregon and the City of Portland.

Operable or inoperable guns will be accepted with no questions asked from 10 am to 2 pm at Memorial Coliseum's North Benton Parking Lot. Working guns can be exchanged for a $50 Fred Meyer gift card (limit of three). Non-working guns, BB guns or pellet guns can be traded for $5 Burgerville gift cards.

"Disposing of these guns reduces the likelihood they will end up in the wrong hands - such as criminals or youth - and used for a violent and illegal act," said Police Chief Mike Reese in a prepared press statement.

More than 7,000 guns have been collected at Portland Gun Turn-In events since 1994.
