Two Education Policy Forums of Note Next Week

Not Waiting for Superman

Jefferson High School hosts two forums on the challenges of public education next week.

The first forum, on Wednesday, Dec. 8, will cover recent changes in how the Seattle public school district evaluates teacher performance. Hosted by Stand for Children, the Black Parent Initiative, and Community & Parents for Public Schools, the event from 6:30 pm to 8 pm will feature a labor negotiator from Seattle Public Schools and a representative of The New Teacher Project.

Then the Portland Association of Teachers union, together with the magazine Rethinking Schools, host a forum called Not Waiting for Superman on Friday, Dec. 10 from 4 pm to 6 pm. Using the recent documentary movie, Waiting for "Superman" as a springboard, the talk will dissect the question, "Who's bashing teachers and public schools and what can we do about it?"
