Veteran political consultant Patricia McCaig
served as Gov.-elect John Kitzhaber's
campaign manager in the months leading up to last Tuesday's election victory for the Democratic candidate.
with the state show McCaig got a $42,000 "win bonus"
for guiding the campaign to victory. Paying campaign staffers for victory is not unheard of around the country—New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, for example, has paid out big numbers to staffers after his victories. But it is somewhat unusual in Oregon.
But a review of Kitzhaber's campaign filings shows McCaig took no salary during the campaign, so her pay for the six months since she took over as campaign manager after the May primary, would work out to about $7,000 per month. That's modest compensation by the standards of Kitzhaber's Republican opponent, Chris Dudley.
McCaig didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
