A little more than three hours after election results showed Oregon
voters soundly rejecting Measure 75
, the measure's supporters issued the news release below to say they'll be back in 2012 with another run at getting voters' OK for a private casino in Oregon.
“The Portland area will be getting a casino in the next few years and we believe it is better on our side of the river, paying taxes, creating jobs and providing revenue for our public schools.
We will make the necessary changes in our measures as we prepare for 2012 and we believe Oregonians will rally around the need for job creation and revenue for schools.
As Oregonians are more informed about plans for a mega-casino just across the river in Washington that will take jobs and revenue out of the state, Oregonians will want the opportunity to vote on a tax-paying casino here in Oregon in 2012.”
