Comcast's $23 Million Settlement in Oregon

Thanks to a class-action lawsuit, about 500,000 Comcast customers in Oregon will share compensation from a $23 million settlement in overcharged late fees by the cable company.

The lawsuit under the state's Unlawful Trade Practices Act stemmed from charges Comcast collected during the past seven years—a $6 late fee it got from customers in Oregon.

As a result, about 500,000 Oregon residents who use—or have used Comcast—will be informed within the next week through mail about the settlement and how to file their claims. Each eligible customer is entitled to $16 per late fee charge, according to Economic Fairness Oregon.

Economic Fairness Oregon, a consumer advocacy group, urges each Comcast user who was charged a late fee between July 15, 2003 and Nov. 22, 2010, to visit the Oregon Late Fee Settlement website to be compensated.

Comcast users have until July 1 to file their claims.
