City Hall: Mayor Wants to Give $100,000 to David Douglas

Mayor Sam Adams wants to give $100,000 of city money to David Douglas High School for a new SUN School, a program managed by Multnomah County with funding from the county, local school districts, the City of Portland's parks department as well as other agencies.

The David Douglas School District in Southeast Portland already has SUN Schools at its elementary and middle-school facilities but not at its high school, which is one of the biggest in Oregon.

The donation, which isn't a done deal until the City Council approves the mayor's budget this summer, follows several other contributions to local school districts. Last year, the mayor gave $200,000 to Portland Public Schools to help it renovate the athletic field at Roosevelt High School in St. Johns. The city also gave $35,000 to the Parkrose School District in Northeast Portland in 2010 to help pay for an educational program athletic field there.
