SXSW? FU! It's FXFU!

fxfu

Who needs South By Southwest? Oh sure, it's the music industry's biggest annual event, featuring every buzzworthy band in the country -- and those breakfast tacos are fucking amazing -- but it's expensive as hell for most of us, and that's not to mention all the time you have to spend in Texas. (I know it's Austin, it's still goddamn Texas.)

Thankfully, there is an alternative. A smaller, less bloggable alternative, but it's also cheaper, and it's right in our own backyard. And no, it's not MFNW.

It's FXFU.

What's FXFU? Let the promoters explain:

"FXFU is a ramshackle affair celebrating music here in Portland, a kinda anti-SXSW but too lazy to be too overtly political, though that is the dominant ethos.  That and a love for community."

Ah, community and laziness. Is there anything more Portlandian?

Anyway, the mini-festival -- scheduled for March 19, the weekend of SXSW, at the Eagle's Lodge (4904 SE Hawthorne)  -- is being curated by local label Field Hymns, and the tentative lineup looks like this:

Old Light
Mike Coykendall & the Golden Shag
Stiffwiff
Pigeons
Yes, Father
What Hearts
DJ Black Sandwich
DJ Nicholab (ghostcapital.blogspot.com)

Not bad for a $5 donation.
