Running for President of Egypt vs. Speaking in Portland

Mohamed Elbaradei

Turns out former United Nations nuclear agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei won't be coming to Portland after all to speak next month at a World Affairs Council event.

The World Affairs Council announced today that ElBaradei's run for president in his native Egypt will mean the cancellation of his April 4 speech in Portland. He will be replaced on June 13 by Nicholas Kristof, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for the New York Times and an Oregon native.
