What One Big Public Campaign Finance Supporter Thinks About Bringing Back the Idea in 2012

Here's a mini-update to a piece in this week's WW about the prospects of public campaign finance returning to the 2012 ballot for Portland voters to consider.

One of the biggest supporters of the effort last fall to retain public financing as an option in city races was New Seasons co-founder Brian Rohter.

Rohter, who donated more than $5,000 in cash and in-kind contributions to the unsuccessful pro-public financing campaign in 2010, said today that he's not certain next year is the right time to ask Portland voters to bring back public financing.

He's still a big supporter of the idea, which he considers one of the most critical issues in politics.

"I'm just not sure that it's the right time to bring it back," Rohter says. "It seems the people just spoke."
