An Oregon prison inmate who practices Satanism is suing the state Department of Corrections for allegedly confiscating books related to his religion.
In a federal civil-rights complaint filed April 13 at U.S. District Court, Joshua James Roberts claims authorities at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla took away four books related to Satanism.
Roberts does not specify the titles of the books he claims were confiscated, but he writes that he would like to bring copies of The Satanic Bible and The Satanic Rituals into prison.
"I feel that I am being religiously discriminated," writes Roberts, 35, who is serving a minimum of 12 years for assault and sex abuse.
Department of Corrections spokeswoman Jennifer Black declined to comment.
